· Travel Team
When we set out for Vancouver Island, we knew we were in for a treat. Nestled in the Pacific Ocean, this gem of a destination is famous for its stunning landscapes, charming towns, and rich wildlife.
Our adventure began as soon as we arrived, and it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with this island paradise.
First Stop: Victoria
Our first destination was Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. The vibrant waterfront, with its iconic Inner Harbour, set the perfect backdrop for our explorations. We strolled through the historic streets, taking in the colorful buildings and the lively atmosphere. One highlight was the Royal BC Museum, which showcases the natural and human history of the province.
Visiting Hours and Ticket Prices: The museum is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission costs CAD 20 for adults and CAD 13 for youth aged 6-18.
After immersing ourselves in the local culture, we decided to unwind at the nearby Butchart Gardens. These exquisite gardens are a feast for the senses, bursting with vibrant colors and fragrant flowers. We were particularly enchanted by the Sunken Garden, which was once a limestone quarry.
Visiting Hours and Ticket Prices: Butchart Gardens is open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is CAD 38 for adults and CAD 19 for youth aged 13-17. Pro tip: visiting during the evening allows you to see the gardens beautifully illuminated.
Wildlife Adventures
Next, we headed north to Tofino, a small town renowned for its breathtaking scenery and outdoor activities. Our whale-watching tour was nothing short of spectacular. As we cruised through the waters of Clayoquot Sound, we spotted orcas breaching and sea lions lounging on rocky outcrops. It was an experience that left us in awe of nature’s beauty.
Tour Details: Many companies offer whale-watching tours; we chose Tofino Whale Watch. Their tours run daily from 10 AM to 2 PM, with prices starting around CAD 120 per person.
Outdoor Exploration
For those who love hiking, we ventured to Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. With its lush rainforests and stunning coastal views, the trails here are simply incredible. We trekked along the Rainforest Trail, where ancient trees towered above us, creating a serene canopy.
Park Information: The park is open year-round, and there is no entry fee. However, some trails may require a parking fee, typically around CAD 7 per vehicle.
Where to Stay
After a long day of exploration, we needed a cozy place to rest. We found the perfect spot at the Wickaninnish Inn, located right on Chesterman Beach in Tofino. This luxury hotel offers stunning ocean views and direct beach access, making it an ideal retreat after our adventures.
Prices: Rooms start at around CAD 350 per night, depending on the season. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant, where we enjoyed fresh seafood while watching the waves crash.
