Volleyball is an exciting team sport that brings people together for fast-paced action.
Played by two teams of six players each, the objective is simple: score points by sending the ball over a net and into the opponent's court. It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and offers a great workout.
How the Game Works
The game begins with a serve, where a player tosses the ball behind the boundary line and hits it over the net. The opposing team tries to prevent the ball from touching their side of the court. Each team can touch the ball up to three times before returning it. The goal is to set up an attack, which is an attempt to score by making the ball land in the opponent’s court.
A point is won when the ball lands on the opponent’s court or if they commit a fault. When a team wins a rally, they get a point and serve the ball for the next rally. The game continues until one team reaches a predetermined number of points.
Common Faults
There are a few common faults in volleyball that can cause a rally to end. These include hitting the ball outside the opponent's court, touching the net, or making consecutive contacts with the ball. A "foot fault" happens when a player steps over the line while serving or under the net during play.

Essential Techniques in Volleyball
To succeed in volleyball, players use several techniques, such as spiking, blocking, passing, and setting. Spiking involves jumping high and hitting the ball forcefully over the net, while blocking prevents the opponent’s spike. Passing and setting are critical for creating attacking opportunities. Mastering these techniques is key to becoming a great player.
Jumping – A Key Skill
One of the most important skills in volleyball is the ability to jump. Whether it’s for spiking or blocking, a strong vertical jump is essential. Players train their jumps to improve their performance, making the sport both challenging and exciting.
